EcoAid partners with the McGrath Foundation
As part of our corporate social responsibility approach, EcoAid is committed to being a passionate and generous supporter of our community. As a first significant step, we have become a corporate partner of one of Australia’s most trusted charities, the McGrath Foundation.
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer In Australia and there are currently approximately 20,000 new cases diagnosed each year. Glenn McGrath and his late wife Jane’s, lives were impacted when Jane was diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time. Jane was able to access a breast care nurse to support her through this uncertain journey. Jane and Glenn saw the enormous need for more breast care nurses in Australia and so they started the McGrath Foundation. To date the McGrath Foundation has funded 171 McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia and supported over 100,000 families since 2005.
Patrick Liu, Managing Director of EcoAid, has also been touched by cancer through the loss of his mother and a recent return of cancer for his father.
Together we can make a difference
Patrick Liu was concerned about the prevalence of single-use plastics being consumed in vast quantities every day in our healthcare system and in 2005 started Australia’s first company solely dedicated to innovating sustainable medical solutions. Since then, EcoAid has replaced more than 28 million pieces of hospital plastic so that healthcare professionals can save the planet. One of our hero products is our sustainable kidney dish which is used widely in healthcare and this product will be the foundation of our commitment to the McGrath Foundation.
Both organisations believe that “Together, we can make a difference.” Collective action is the key – whether it’s one new breast care nurse, or one item of single-use plastic replaced. Every action counts and contributes to achieving our objectives. Nurses and other medical professionals in our healthcare system are often the eco-warriors who are taking steps to reduce the prevalence of single-use plastics because they understand that together we can implement change and help the planet. This is another reason why we have chosen to support McGrath Breast Care Nurses and the McGrath Foundation.
